I never knew that moving across the country was so stressful. Even moving from one small apartment to our new apartment was stressful.
When Elliott and I finally chose (well, technically I wanted to pick this place), we literally had nothing except clothes and towels. Not even a bed, or bedsheets, or blankets, shower curtains. Nada. Nothing. It was all very rushed cause, New York is super fast paced. The guy who rented this apartment, moved out the day before, and we were moving in on May 1st, but my first day at my new job was on that day, so I had to come home from work, and move the rest of our shit from my old apartment (which the lease was up on that day as well) to our new apartment.
Elliott went to Target to buy a blow up mattress so we could have something to sleep on. I already purchased on comforter and bed frames, but they kept messing up our delivery. Which, this shit, is another disaster story to talk about. Back to my blow up mattress story. Remember, we had NO blankets. Nothing. So, on our first night sleeping at our new apartment, we slept with just our coats covering our bodies, and thank god that this apartment had a heater, we blasted the heater.
Thanks to Elliott’s mom, Catherine, she wanted to buy us some housewarming gifts, so we decided maybe the best things were kitchen items, since we wanted to cook at home to save some money. Eating out is expensive, lol. She got us, pots and pans, silverware, plates and coffee mug sets, and knives. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
After about 4 long days of sleeping on the blow up mattress, we went to scout for our mattress BECAUSE, I bought that shit before we moved, and the delivery people kept fucking up and changing their delivery time. Basically, it was one big mess. Elliott and I had to drive to Queens to find our another back up mattress since they gave ours away to someone else, and the people at the store sent us to another place cause they actually had the same mattress at another store somewhere in Brooklyn. Crazy right?
Anyways. We got our mattress AND a nice bed frame, with bedsheets and blankets. So, no more sleeping in the cold. Yay!
We moved our air mattress to the living room cause we didn’t have a couch, hahaha. After we got back with our mattress, Elliott set up the whole bed frame by himself while I slept off my headache in the living room on the blow up mattress. He woke me up by carrying me to the bed and I was worried and told him tiredly, “but babe, we haven’t set up the bedsheets or the blankets.” He didn’t say anything and just set me on the bed. That’s when I realized he did everything already. So, we both laid on the bed and was so grateful after many days of sleeping on the blow up mattress, we realized how comfy a mattress could be.
I will keep updating this blog entry because, our apartments constantly being updated. So, why not check out our process?
Adulting is hard.
